California Democrat and Lt. Governor John Garamendi has decided in predictable liberal fashion to politicize the fires raging in his state. With half a million Californians evacuated from the fires’ path and a state of emergency declared by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Gamarmedi irresponsibly used the disaster as a chance to lash out at President Bush.
In an interview with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, Garamendi stated that California had received a lot of support from the federal government, but then went on to say he had doubts about Bush’s visit to the disaster area. When Matthews asked if Garamendi thought it was just a PR opportunity for Bush, Garamendi said, “Of course it’s public relations.” He went on to say, “Okay, President Bush comes out, we’ll be polite. But frankly, that’s not the solution. How about sending our National Guard back from Iraq?”
Garamendi also stated that Bush’s visit would distract from the efforts to combat the fire. So, when Bush decided not to visit New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina precisely because he didn’t want to distract- he’s an insensitive, uncaring monster. When he decides to visit the disaster areas of Southern California, it's just PR and he’s going to get in the way.
Damned if you do and Damned if you don’t, Mr. President. Garamendi’s comments reveal not only his ignorance, but his agenda as well. In their desire to blame Bush for everything wrong with this country, including natural disasters, the left only makes itself look more and more ridiculous.
