Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards showed his true colors on Saturday when he revealed his ‘plan’ for the American economy. His ideas would have been greeted with raving applause and adulation had he delivered the speech in Moscow in the 1930s.
According to CNN, Edwards stated that America can’t just wait for the economy to improve and better itself, dismissing most the basic premise of a free market. Instead the former South Carolina Senator called for congress to provide up to $100 billion to combat the perceived economic downturn.
“I’ve been concerned for some time that the economic growth in this country is completely concentrated in the top with big corporations and the richest Americans,” said Edwards, a rich American.
Diplomatically, Edwards failed to mention where this $100 billion would come from, though you can be sure that he’s greedily eyeing your tax dollars and mine for his blatantly socialist scheme.
Of course we really shouldn’t be surprised by Edwards’ disconnect with economic reality. The Democratic Party has often served as the American version of the failed left-wing economic agencies that have turned Europe in to one big socialist mess. At least the Europeans are starting to get it right. With the election of Angela Merkel in Germany and Nicolas Sarkozy in France the continent might now just have a chance of emerging from its failed economic course. Let’s hope that we here in America reject socialism before it has a chance to take hold- that means rejecting idiots like Edwards who assume that what they’re doing is fresh, new, and moral.
