TOM TANCREDO BOWS OUT OF RACE

Dark horse GOP presidential candidate Tom Tancredo announced on Thursday, his sixty-fifth birthday, that he was bowing out of the race. The Colorado representative cited the “incredibly long odds” he faced in his bid for the White House as his reason for stepping down.

Recent polls showed that Tancredo could expect support from only 1-3% of Republican voters nationally. Despite the fact that Tancredo’s chief issues were immigration and national security, his message never seemed to resonate strongly with Republican voters. Recent polls show Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, and Mike Huckabee leading Republican candidates in the race for the White House.

According to CNN, Tancredo believes his candidacy was important as it kept the issues of immigration and national security front and center among the Republican candidates. In fact, Tancredo said that when it came to these two issues the other candidates had consistently tried to “out-Tancredo Tancredo.” “I am ecstatic about the fact that we can say we have made remarkable progress along those lines,” said Tancredo.

In exiting the presidential contest, Tancredo announced that he would throw his support behind Mitt Romney because he believed that the former Massachusetts Governor “can go the distance.” Tancredo also cited Romney’s similar stands on key issues.

Though Tancredo has officially bowed out, we here at bloodredstate salute his integrity and service to the nation. Best wishes to this great American in his future endeavors, and kudos on his endorsement of GOP powerhouse Mitt Romney.
